Text Blaze vs Magical: which one should you choose?

Two text shortcut extensions popular with sales and support teams, head to head: what each one does, how much it costs and what changed in 2026.

Text Blaze and Magical do the same basic job: you type a short shortcut and a full text appears. Text Blaze stands out for the forms inside its templates; Magical became famous for filling in forms by copying data from one website to another.

In 2026 they're in very different places. Text Blaze is still focused on its templates, while the company behind Magical has changed direction. We're the NexoPad team, so at the end we explain when a third option might suit you, but the goal is for you to choose well, whichever you pick.

Quick summary

  • Text Blaze is the most complete for templates: forms with fields, dropdowns and dates, conditional rules and formulas. It publishes its prices and keeps getting updates.
  • Magical stands out for copying data from one website to another to fill in forms, on top of expanding templates. It doesn't publish its prices on its website.
  • Where each is heading: Magical's extension is still in the Chrome Web Store, but it hasn't been updated since April 2026 and the company now focuses on AI agents for healthcare.
  • Where they work: both are Chrome extensions that also work in Edge. Text Blaze also has Windows and macOS apps. Neither has a Firefox extension.

What happened to Magical:Magical's website now presents the company as a provider of AI agents for healthcare operations and no longer mentions the extension. The "Magical: Text Expander & Autofill" extension is still in the Chrome Web Store, but its last update was on April 4, 2026. Its help center also says the AI writing assistant (AI Assist) is no longer available in the extension. We go into more detail in NexoPad vs Magical.

The free plans, compared

Text Blaze's free plan limits snippets: its website doesn't publish the number, but its official forum mentions 20 active snippets, and those using Pro features (like form fields) can be used 5 times a day. For simple templates, it gives you plenty of room.

Magical's free plan limits how often you use your templates: each expansion counts as one use. Its help center doesn't give the number, and the prices of its Core and Advanced plans are only shown inside your account. Check them there before you rely on it.

When to choose each

Choose Text Blaze if…

You want templates with complete forms, rules and formulas, clear pricing and a tool that keeps getting updates. Also if you need to expand text outside the browser with its apps.

Choose Magical if…

You already use it to copy data from one website to another and fill in forms, and it works well for you as it is. Keep in mind the company now focuses on a different product.

A third option: NexoPad

If you mostly work in the browser and want more than shortcuts, NexoPad brings together your shortcuts with variables, notes with reminders, links and AI with your own key in a single extension. It works on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Brave.

When a shortcut has details that change, a form opens with a preview of the final text before it's inserted. From the Variables menu you add the person's name, a greeting based on the time of day or the date, and with shortcuts per website you decide where each shortcut works: on every website, only on some, or on all except some.

What it doesn't do: its forms don't go as far as Text Blaze's rules and formulas, it doesn't copy data between tabs like Magical, and it doesn't work outside the browser. To see each case on its own, read NexoPad vs Text Blaze and NexoPad vs Magical.

The Variables menu adds a name, a time-based greeting or the date to your template.
Switch in a minute:NexoPad imports your shortcuts from Text Blaze: export the file, upload it in My account → Backup → Import from another app and variables are converted for you. Magical isn't one of the importer's apps, so you move its templates with the importer's CSV template. How to do it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Magical still work?

Yes. As of October 21, 2026 the extension is still in the Chrome Web Store, although it hasn't been updated since April 4, 2026 and the company's website no longer promotes it.

Which is cheaper, Text Blaze or Magical?

It's hard to compare: Text Blaze publishes its prices (Pro from $2.99 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026), while Magical only shows them inside your account. Both have a free plan with limits.

Which one has AI?

Text Blaze has a separate product, AI Blaze, for writing and editing with AI. Magical removed its writing assistant in 2025 and uses AI in its automations. NexoPad includes AI with your own key from 11 providers, 5 of them with a free option.

Is NexoPad free?

It has a free plan with 15 shortcuts and 200 uses a month, and variables work on it (the person's name is filled in only in Gmail). The Pro plan costs $7 a month or $49 a year.

Are there other alternatives?

Yes: TextExpander, Briskine or Espanso, among others. We compare them in our list of the best text expanders, and if you're torn between the two best-known ones, read Text Blaze vs TextExpander.
