Import shortcuts from another app

Bring the shortcuts you already have in Text Blaze, TextExpander, Espanso, Zendesk and other apps in a minute.

The importer is in the web dashboard: My account → Backup → Import from another app. You can also open it directly with this link.

It reads the file in your browser, shows you how each shortcut will look and only saves the ones you confirm.

How to import your shortcuts

1

Export your shortcuts from the other app

Each app does it differently. The importer explains step by step how to do it in the one you choose, and the table below sums it up.

2

Open the importer

In the web dashboard, go to My account → Backup and click Import from another app. Choose the app you come from.

3

Upload the file

Drop it or choose it. You can upload several at once, for example one CSV per TextExpander group.

4

Review the preview and import

You'll see each shortcut as it will look in NexoPad, with its variables already converted. Untick the ones you don't want and click Import. They show up right away in the dashboard and in the extension.

Choose the app you come from. If it isn't listed, use the CSV template.

Your app isn't listed?:Gmail, Outlook, HubSpot, Help Scout, Front, Magical and PhraseExpress don't let you export your templates to a file. Copy your texts into the importer's CSV template and upload them in one go.

What happens to variables

The importer converts each app's variables to NexoPad's: fill-in fields become {{input:…}}, menus become {{dropdown:…}}, and dates, clipboard and cursor become their equivalents. For example, Text Blaze's text field {formtext: name=Customer} becomes {{input:Customer}}. See them all in the variables guide.

Anything with no equivalent (formulas, scripts, conditions…) is kept as text, with a warning, and the shortcut gets the "review" tag so you can find it easily.

If an app doesn't use shortcuts, like Freshdesk or Zendesk, NexoPad suggests one based on the title.

The preview shows each shortcut with its converted variables and flags duplicates.

Duplicates and plan limits

  • Duplicate shortcut: if you already have that shortcut with different text, you choose between saving it under another name (for example /sig2) or not importing it.
  • Already have it: if the shortcut and the text are the same, it is not duplicated. You can run the import again safely.
  • Free plan: up to 15 shortcuts and notes, 2 custom folders and 3,000 characters per shortcut. If they don't all fit, the first ones are imported and you can try Pro for 7 days to bring the rest.
  • Privacy: the file is read in your browser. Only the shortcuts you confirm are saved to your account.
