Contextual AI, panel chat, and on-page actions
NexoPad no longer treats AI as a single chat: it integrates it into the side panel, text selection, and the browser right-click menu.
The AI layer is now spread across multiple entry points. On one side there is the side panel, built for prompts, history, chat mode, and exports. On the other side there are inline actions and the browser context menu over selected text, which are much faster for correcting, summarizing, or translating without breaking your flow.
The best way to use it is as a work tool: select, transform, apply, and continue.
How AI enters your workflow
Side panel
Best for long prompts, chat, history, note attachments, exports, and switching between providers or models.
Inline bubble or bar
Designed to act on a specific selection inside the page without opening a larger view.
Context menu
Right-clicking selected text can launch AI actions, translation, or send that text directly to the panel.
How the inline bubble works on selected text
Select text on a compatible page
When AI is enabled and a provider is configured, NexoPad detects text selections and shows a small AI icon next to the selected text.
Click the NexoPad AI icon
If the selection is inside an editable field, a compact bar appears so you can act without leaving the input. If the selection is regular page text, a floating panel opens with more room for results, history, and actions.
Choose a quick action
The inline bar can fix, formalize, soften, shorten, summarize, redraft, translate, copy the selection, or save it as a note. You can also open ... to write a custom instruction.
Apply, copy, save, or regenerate
In editable fields, NexoPad can replace the selected text with the result and show an undo option when the field supports it. On protected pages or custom editors, direct application depends on how the site handles its editor.
Use `Esc` to close it
The bubble closes when you click outside, change the selection, or press Esc. If it does not appear, check that text is selected, a provider is active, and the page allows overlays.
How to use AI from the browser context menu
Select text and right-click
The NexoPad menu can appear on pages, links, or selections. AI options appear inside it when text is selected and AI is configured.
Choose an immediate action
From right-click you can fix, formalize, soften, shorten, summarize, redraft, or translate without relying on the inline bubble.
Translate into a specific language
The translation submenu can send text to en, es, fr, pt, de, it, ja, or zh. Use it when you already know the target language.
Send the text to the panel as a tool or chat
Send to AI tool loads the text in the panel for a one-shot action. Send to AI chat sends it to conversation mode for follow-up questions, refinement, or extra context.
Use it as a fallback when a page blocks the bubble
Some websites can block the visual inline layer, but the browser context menu is often a more stable way to send the selection to the panel.
Actions available when working on selected text
| Action | What it does | Useful note |
|---|---|---|
| Fix | Corrects grammar and spelling while keeping the original language. | Useful for emails, chats, and quick replies. |
| Formal | Rewrites with a more professional tone. | Fits proposals, support, and external communication. |
| Soften | Makes the text warmer or more empathetic. | Helpful in customer support or tense messages. |
| Shorten | Reduces the text to the smallest useful version. | Good for short replies and small fields. |
| Summarize | Condenses content into a few sentences. | Useful for tickets, meetings, or long pages. |
| Explain | Clarifies the meaning without assuming previous context. | Helpful for onboarding and learning. |
| Redraft | Rewrites to improve clarity, structure, and overall quality. | Closest thing to a full polished rewrite. |
| Translate | Detects the language and moves it to the chosen target language. | From the context menu you can choose en, es, fr, pt, de, it, ja, or zh. |
| Send to AI tool | Opens the panel with the text prepared for a one-shot action. | Best when you want a direct result. |
| Send to AI chat | Sends the text into conversation mode for follow-up questions. | Better when the case needs accumulated context. |
What the panel chat mode adds
Type a message or send text from the page
You can start from scratch or send selected text via right-click and continue developing it inside the chat.
Let NexoPad create title and history automatically
The extension generates a chat title from the first exchange and keeps a history so you can return later.
Attach a note as extra context
The attach-note button lets you add background material without manually pasting everything into the prompt.
Stop streaming, regenerate, or continue the conversation
The answer can stream in real time, and you can interrupt it if you already got what you needed or want to retry.
Save or export what matters
You can copy the result, save it as a note, export the current answer, or export the whole conversation in Markdown.
Adjust persona and system prompt
The current setup supports persona or system prompt controls for more consistent output, plus presets such as developer, copywriter, analyst, or teacher.
What you can do with an AI answer
- Copy the result to the clipboard.
- Apply or inject it directly into an editable field when the context allows it.
- Undo the application if you inserted the result and changed your mind.
- Save the result or the conversation as a note.
- Reuse it as the basis for a follow-up prompt in the same chat.
- Export it as Markdown for sharing or archiving.
Practical considerations worth keeping in mind
If you do not see AI in the panel or over selected text, first check whether you have an active provider, a valid API key, the inline option enabled, and a page where the browser allows this kind of interaction.
The inline bubble and the browser context menu do not always behave the same. On protected pages, the visual layer can fail while right-click actions still work better.
The active provider determines the available model and the applicable data policy. NexoPad integrates the experience, but text processing happens on the chosen provider side.
